Dear Peoples and Peoplesses,
How has your week been? Or, rather, fortnight? Sorry about the lack of newsletter last week… y’know… things…
And it’s the 40th newsletter! How did that happen?!
Anyway, let’s crack straight on with it before the weather changes and the internet breaks!
This exciting, podulicious episode contains:
Audio
Thermocoupling
Murals
…and bloody more too!
Let’s do it!
Happy reading/listening!

Pre-Pod #1
Well, I did say it would happen - and this is the start point. Welcome to Pre-Pod #1 - or CarPod #1. Entirely up to you.
I haven’t done any production work on it - it is what it is, no edits, no enhancements (more on that in a later edition).
It was recorded on the standard voice recorder app on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 11 Pro+ using a POSS MIC02 USB-C Bluetooth lavalier microphone. Now, I’d be very interested in hearing what you think about it. It was quite a noisy environment and, as I said above, I have not done any tweaking with it. Contrary to what I said on the pre-pod, it cost me 3€30!
Here’s the little recording kit that I carry with me.
It consists of :
an old glasses case
a USB C - USB A cable
a Poss MIC02 wireless mic
a Sandisk USB A / USB C memory stick
a mobile phone stand
Under 20€ for the lot!
Honest opinions on how it sounds in the comments, please!
Issues
This hasn’t aged well!
How long before there are even more errors on it?!
Carry On Thermocoupling
In 1981, the fantabulous Kenneth Williams co-presented the BBC’s flagship science programme, Tomorrow’s World.
It really is a brilliant watch…
All science should be explained like this!
What a delight!
Occasional Tourist
I had to go to an osteo-something last week (I get very confused with medical stuff) and it was in Morlaix. It’s a beautiful town in north Finistere that I first visited when I was about 17 and many, many times since on holiday - and now I live up the road!
Sadly, that means that I’ve stopped seeing Morlaix as I did before - as a tourist, as a beautiful place to visit. So I took the opportunity to do just that.
I’d forgotten that, over the years, Morlaix has had some fantastic murals - and the collection keeps growing…

Beware Supermarkets!
When you go into any supermarket ANYWHERE, beware of this simple trap.
Firstly, a packet of biscuits costing approximately 12€/kg…
Secondly, another packet of biscuits costing 5,60/kg…
These two packets contain the same products, made by the same people - however, they have two important differences.
They are in different packaging.
The more expensive ones are in the ‘world foods’ section and the cheaper ones are in the normal biscuit aisle.
If I was braver, I’d say it was dishonest.
Thanks From the Co-Pilot
Thank you to everyone who is supporting my son, the co-pilot, as he prepares for his trip to Norway to look at how Norwegian schools support dyslexic students. He is very grateful and he has promised photos and updates for this newsletter!
To make things a bit easier for him on his travels and let him keep up wth work at lycée in France and also in Norway (he has to do both at once!), he is hoping to get a tablet and keyboard case with a little help from us and his friends online.
He’s set up a Gofundme to raise some money towards this. Any contributions would be gratefully received and help him not only get the equipment to make the experience better but also understand the support that is out there.
A massive thank you to everyone who has already contributed!
Can’t believe it’s March already! This year has been… wait, that’s another story for another book!
Anyway, March in Croatian is ožujak - or ‘the lying month’ because the weather keeps lying about what it’s doing. It’s the first of March and today was meant to be an 18-hour thunderstorm here - it’s actually sunny at the moment! So, pretty accurate!
See you all next week!
Take care,
James x
